It’s not a mystery. Facebook prohibits direct downloads of Reels videos for the same reasons that the app stops you from downloading most of the vids you see coming across your feed. Like all social apps, Facebook tries to make their service look like it’s designed for users — but it’s really designed to maximize profits and minimize legal problems.
The company already spends a small fortune to run Facebook, including the cost of thousands of servers to handle the burden of users uploading 350,000 photos and videos and generating eight billion video views per day. Allowing users to download every video and Reels vid on the system would require adding thousands of additional servers — and that’s an expense Facebook doesn’t want to incur.
It's easier and cleaner to set up the app so most downloads, including downloads of all Reels videos, are prohibited by default. We think that’s a shame, but we’re fortunate; we don’t have to worry about the cost of running the world’s biggest social app. It costs us very little to take Reels from FB’s servers and let you download them, and we’re happy to do it.
When a user creates a Facebook Reel (or uploads any other video), they still own the content and its copyright. The app doesn’t own any of the photos and videos that users post; it’s simply a repository for user-generated content. But if someone downloads a Reels vid and tries to pass it off as their own creation, or uses it for some illicit or illegal purpose, Facebook could still find themselves sued for allowing that to happen.
The easiest way for the platform to avoid being snarled in that type of sticky legal situation is to simply ban all downloads — unless the video owner agrees to make their content available for others to save. That’s what happens with the regular videos uploaded to Facebook, and it’s why downloading isn’t an available option in the FB Reels section. If a Reel is misused by someone who managed to save it anyway, the platform can simply deny any legal responsibiity and let the video owner and the violator fight it out in court.
To put things simply, we don’t believe that any Buzzoid customers or website visitors want to download Reels videos for nefarious purposes. We understand FB users’ motivations; they just want to be able to have the Reels they’ve enjoyed available for viewing and sharing.
We also don’t think we’re in any legal jeopardy, either, since we’re not hosting any videos or making them available to anyone. We’re only providing a service to the Buzzoid community, letting users access the Reels they can freely watch any time they open their Facebook app. Any decision to misuse content available online is on the person doing it, not us. We just ask that you use any Reels that you save with our app responsibly and legally.

Find and copy the URL of the Facebook Reel you want to download.
Click the “share” icon on the Reel (it’s a curved arrow) and then choose “Copy link.”
Scroll to the top of this page and paste the URL into the appropriate box.

You’ll be asked to choose the quality of your download, and in just seconds, your Reel will be saved on your phone, tablet, computer, or other device. It couldn’t be easier!
